Appaloosa White
Appaloosa White ApHC Rules Pinto socks Appaloosa pattern bald face
This is the current (scanned from 2007 Handbook) ApHC rule regarding white face and leg markings and 'misplaced white':
How much white was allowed prior to the addition of this rule in 2000? No specific rules giving limits to socks or bald faces has been found in old rulebooks so far, (if you have any such rules in print please contact Eastowest!) but here are some photos of registered Appaloosas from the 1960's and 1970's-
1961- rear socks come above the hocks in front
1965- front sock nearly to body, bald face, and white at throatlatch
1969- both front socks above knees at various points
1971- front sock above knee all around
1972- full bald face, front sock almost to body, other high socks
1976- front sock above knee all around and a "tail" up the forearm.
Below is another view of the same horse in 1981.
1978- front sock above knee all around - note that the diagonal "line" on the inside foreleg is a shadow-- the sock goes well above the chestnut
